Rock is the foundation of the world, a keeper of secrets, the silent storyteller of earth’s creation. Our planet’s evolution lies embedded inside its physical geology, a revelation of time dating back billions of years.
Every piece of stone has a tale to tell, of age, origin, circumstance….of materiality and process.
Intense heat is crucial to the creation of Igneous and Metamorphic rock and is responsible also, for the formation of precious minerals found to be encased within. Sedimentary rock however, relies on the settling of particles within a body of water to establish its layers, which are ‘laid down’ over immense periods of time. Squeezed, flattened and folded under tremendous pressure, these rock slabs contain the remnants of anything organic entombed by silty sediment, preserving it forever.
Such dynamic process inspires extensive experimentation amongst materials, the fostering of unpredictable outcomes and consequently, valuable and exciting forays into the unknown.
